Strengths shape who you are and are a powerful tool to understand how you engage with others.
Students at UT participate in multiple experiences to discover, leverage, and utilize their strengths. Beginning in orientation, you will take the CliftonStrengths assessment, an online assessment that measures your talents and ranks them in a unique order.Once you know your strengths, learn more about those values and tendencies. Whether in the classroom, in student organizations, or with your peers at UT, we believe in you, and this tool can be instrumental in reaching your success.

Take the Assessment
The University of Tennessee offers the CliftonStrengths assessment free to all students. You will be asked to reflect upon the results of this assessment, and it will be utilized in a variety of coursework and training, so we encourage you to take the assessment seriously.
After completing the assessment, you will receive:
Student Report
This report will help you develop better study habits, create an academic success plan, contribute to group projects and extracurricular activities, and navigate career exploration.
Top 5 Report
No one’s strengths show up exactly like yours! This report provides a look at how your strengths are unique to you and how they combine.

Name It
- In their first year on campus, students take the CliftonStrengths assessment and learn what their strengths are. They receive their top 5 strengths, which are identifying characteristics that represent driving factors in their personality and abilities.
Claim It
- In their second year, students are invited to further develop their strengths and explore how their strengths impact their day-to-day lives.
Aim It
- In their third and fourth years, students learn to apply their strengths in various settings. Whether its excelling in academic achievement or pursuing post-university careers, students are encouraged to own their strengths, recognizing that what they bring to the table is unique and valuable to their community contributions.
Give It/Share It
- In their final months on campus and as they prepare to leave UT, students are challenged to share their strengths with others and with the community. Whether it’s mentoring someone younger than themselves, serving in a local organization, or pursuing meaningful change in their professional roles, students can give the best of themselves to those around them by utilizing their strengths in creative and impactful ways.
